point it at the ground so the asphalt fills the whole frame and hit the exposure lock button, then recompose with the car in the frame and press the shutter. Grass works for this also. Cameras aren't smart enough to know it's a black car, so they try to expose the subject as a middle grey color. So, it overexposes the black trying to make it grey, and it will underexpose a white car making it look light grey instead of white.
